The short version: Screenpane is a local-first Mac app with no accounts and no telemetry, this website runs no analytics or ad trackers, and payments are handled by Polar. Details below.

This website

screenpane.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. Fonts are served from this site, not a third party. If you email hello@screenpane.com, your message is kept only as ordinary correspondence.

The waitlist

If you join the waitlist, your email address is stored with the date you joined, in a database on Cloudflare that only Screenpane can read. It is used for one thing, an email when Screenpane launches, and is never sold or shared. To be removed, email hello@screenpane.com.

Purchases

Checkout is operated by Polar Software, Inc. as merchant of record. Polar processes your payment details under its own privacy policy; Screenpane never sees your card number. From Polar, Screenpane receives your name, email address, and licence information — used only to deliver the app, validate the licence, and provide support.

The app

  • Your projects and screenshots stay on your Mac. Screenpane has no server that stores your work, and the app sends no usage analytics or telemetry.
  • App Store Connect uploads go directly from your Mac to Apple, using API credentials you create and which are stored in the macOS Keychain.
  • Caption translation sends the caption text directly from your Mac to OpenAI, using your own OpenAI API key (also stored in the Keychain). Nothing is routed through Screenpane, which stores nothing about you or your work.
  • Licence activationsends your licence key to Polar's API to confirm it is valid.
  • Update checks ask screenpane.com whether a newer version exists. No personal data is sent.
  • App icon lookup: when you pick an app, its bundle ID is sent to Apple's public App Store lookup to fetch its icon.

What Screenpane does not do

No selling or sharing of personal data, no advertising, no profiling, no third-party analytics — on the site or in the app.
